Off-duty deputies may act in a law-enforcement capacity under very specific and restrictive circumstances. While on or off-duty, deputies shall not, under any circumstances, commit crimes. Any deputy found in violation of this policy is subject to potential termination from the department.
Immediately report any crimes you witness through 911, and avoid involving yourself if at all possible.
If you believe there is threat of imminent harm to yourself or others, you may involve yourself if you believe it is safe and appropriate.
If you've involved yourself, immediately identify yourself as an off-duty deputy and provide your name and badge number.
If you've involved yourself, present your badge prior to intervening.
Abide by all department & JDC policies and procedures should you need to make an arrest.
Enforce minor code violations.
Take advantage of your on-duty authority for personal gain.
Have your badge visible while not operating in a law enforcement capacity.
Integrate yourself into incidents where you are not needed.
Department administration reserves the right to review all off-duty actions and impose penalties if these actions are deemed in violation of our policies.
