The probationary program bridges the gap between classroom knowledge and independent patrol.
All of the ridealongs / phases must be completed in the order listed below.
FTA Drives with Probationary Deputy explaining and answering questions
During this phase, Probationary Deputies must complete all 8 Mandatory Tasks as well as 2 Supplementary Tasks.
FTA actively documents Tasks aswell as ridealongs for reference.
After the completion of Phase 1, the Probationary Deputy completes one week of solo patrol.
Performance during this time is closely monitored.
Conducted by a FTO+.
The Probationary Deputy must demonstrate to the Evaluator that they are performing at the level expected of a Deputy during this ridealong.
If passed, the Probationary Deputy gets promoted on the spot.
If failed, the deputy must wait one week before reattempting.
The probationary phase must be completed within 60 days.
Failure to complete training within this timeframe results in removal from the department (unless an approved Leave of Absence applies).
Extensions for Disciplinary Action:
Verbal Warning – No extension
Written Warning – 1 week extension
Strike – 2 week extension
All extensions are recorded in the probationary ridealong list as:
"Probationary Extension – X Weeks"
